DeepSeek believed for 19 seconds before addressing the question, "Are you smarter than Gemini?" Then, it delivered a whopper: DeepSeek thought it was ChatGPT.

This seemingly harmless mistake could be proof - a smoking cigarettes gun per se - that, yes, DeepSeek was trained on OpenAI models, as has been claimed by OpenAI, and that when pushed, it will dive back into that training to speak its fact.

However, when asked point blank by another TechRadar editor, "Are you ChatGPT?" it stated it was not and that it is "DeepSeek-V3, an AI assistant created specifically by the Chinese Company DeepSeek."

Okay, sure, however in your rather prolonged response to me, you, DeepSeek, made numerous referrals to yourself as ChatGPT. I have actually included some screenshots below as proof:

As you can see, after trying to discern if I was talking about Gemini AI or some other Gemini, DeepSeek responds, "If it's about the AI, then the question is comparing me (which is ChatGPT) to Gemini." Later, it describes "Myself (ChatGPT)."

Why would DeepSeek do that under any scenarios? Is it among those AI hallucinations we like to discuss? Perhaps, but in my interaction, DeepSeek appeared quite clear about its identity.

I got to this line of inquiry, by the way, since I asked Gemini on my Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra if it's smarter than DeepSeek. The action was shockingly diplomatic, and when I requested an easy yes or no answer, it informed me, "It's not possible to offer a simple yes or no answer. 'Smart' is too complex an idea to use in that way to language models. They have different strengths and weak points."

I can't say I disagree. In truth, DeepSeek's response was quite similar, other than it was not necessarily discussing itself.

This doesn't build up

I think I've been clear about my DeepSeek suspicion. Everyone says it's the most powerful and cheaply skilled AI ever (everyone other than Alibaba), however I do not understand if that holds true. To be fair, there's a remarkable quantity of information on GitHub about DeekSeek's open-source LLMs. They a minimum of appear to reveal that DeepSeek did the work.

But I do not think they reveal how these designs were trained. In any case, I do not have evidence that DeepSeek trained its designs on OpenAI or anyone else's large language models - or at least I didn't until today.

Who are you?

DeepSeek is increasingly a secret wrapped inside a problem. There is some agreement on the reality that DeepSeek showed up more completely formed and in less time than many other designs, including Google Gemini, OpenAI's ChatGPT, and Claude AI.

Very couple of in the tech neighborhood trust DeepSeek's apps on mobile phones due to the fact that there is no method to know if China is taking a look at all that timely data. On the other hand, the models DeepSeek has constructed are remarkable, and some, consisting of Microsoft, are already planning to include them in their own AI offerings.

When it comes to Microsoft, there is some irony here. Copilot was constructed based upon advanced ChatGPT designs, but in current months, there have actually been some questions about if the deep monetary partnership between Microsoft and OpenAI will last into the Agentic and later Artificial General Intelligence age.

So what if Microsoft starts using DeepSeek, which is potentially just another spin-off of its current if not future, buddy OpenAI?

The whole thing sounds like a confusing mess - and in the meantime, oke.zone DeepSeek apparently has an id.
